Grains mixed in Chicago Thursday

 

CHICAGO, July 24 (UPI) -- Grains trading was mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Thursday with traders reacting to comments by the chairman of the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee.

Corn was up 1 1/2 to up 1 3/4, soybeans were off 9 1/4 to off 12 3/4, wheat was up 3 3/4 to up 4 1/2 and oats were up 4 1/4 to up 5.

Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, urged the Environmental Protection Agency to reject a request from Texas to waive half its 2008 federal ethanol mandate. Wheat export sales reached 610,000 metric tons this week. Dry weather was expected to return to Delta soybean areas.

The prices:

Corn: Sep 5.73, up 1 1/2; Dec 5.92, up 1 1/2; Mar 6.11 1/4, up 1 1/2; May 6.23 3/4 up, 1 3/4.

Soybeans: Aug 13.85, off 9 1/4; Sep 13.73, off 12 3/4; Nov 13.73, off 11; Jan 13.90 3/4, off 10 1/2.

Wheat: Sep 7.87 3/4, up 4 1/2; Dec 8.11 1/4, up 4 1/2; Mar 8.33 1/4, up 3 3/4; May 8.47 1/4, up 3 3/4.

Oats: Sep 3.90, up 5; Dec 4.07 1/2, up 4 1/2; Mar 4.26 1/2, up 4 1/2; May 4.38 1/2, up 4 1/4.
